In 1895 the renowned theatre architect Frank Matcham bestowed on Belfast one of his most imaginative and opulent creations. The Grand Opera House is one of Belfast’s most iconic buildings, the city’s foremost cultural asset, and the only remaining Victorian theatre in Northern Ireland. The Grand Opera House was the first building in Belfast to gain Grade A listed status, and features one of the city’s richest and most splendid interiors.
In 2018 Kaleidoscope worked with the Grand Opera House Trust to develop plans for a once in a generation renovation project that would see the theatre's internal areas completely rejuvenated and restored. The £12m redevelopment project succeeded in securing major funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. The restoration project is currently underway and is due for completion in May 2021.
