Belfast City Cemetery is one of the finest examples of a Victorian Garden Cemetery in the UK. The cemetery offers a remarkable insight into the history of Belfast and boasts many fine examples of Victorian, Edwardian and Gothic revival architecture. In 2016 Belfast City Council embarked upon a major redevelopment project at the City Cemetery. The Council’s plans include a number of exciting initiatives designed to enhance the existing heritage within the site as well as the public’s ability to access and enjoy it. As part of the project a new visitor/education centre will be built on site and many of the existing heritage features within the Cemetery will be restored. Kaleidoscope worked with Belfast City Council to develop a detailed Engagement and Activity Plan for the City Cemetery designed to attract more visitors to the site. The plan includes a number of initiatives including a range of guided tours, a schools programme, volunteer opportunities, public events and much more.
